1. What is the Florida Bail Bond Academy?

The Florida Bail Bond Academy provides the information and resources you need to become a successful Bail Bondsman or Recovery Agent. All of our instructors are Licensed Bail Agents and Certified Recovery Agents and have years of hands-on experience in Bail. Recovery. Surety management. Law Enforcement. Private Investigation. Legal profession. and Corporate management. All of our courses are APPROVED and EXCEED Florida Department of Financial Services standards.

 

2. How do I become a Bail Agent?

The Requirements to become a Bail Agent:

The applicant is 18 years old and holds a high school diploma or its equivalent.

The applicant is a United States citizen or legal alien who possesses work authorization from the United States Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services and is a resident of Florida.

 

3. The applicant has successfully completed a 120 hours of classroom or Weimar instruction with a passing grade of 80 percent or higher and has successfully completed a correspondence course for bail bond agents approved by the department.

 

4. The course and breaks.

The course is 2 weeks. Monday - Friday. From 8:00 am until 6:00 pm. for a total of 12 course days. Each credit hour includes 50 minutes of instruction time and a 10- minute break and one hour Lunch break during the course. There is NO weekend class.

 

5.  Course Cost: $499.95

 

6.  Course Format:

The course is a online Weimar course with multiple instructors (students must be actively logged in while instructors teach). Students are responsible for providing their own technology to participate in class. The following equipment is necessary: computer, laptop, tablet or mobile devices (iPad, iPhone, Android device or Windows mobile device) with an Internet connection, webcam (for cases of video broadcasting) headset (headphones and microphone). A working microphone, such as the built-in microphone, a USB microphone or an inline microphone on a headset or headphones.

 

7.  Attendance requirements:

State licensures require 80% attendance.  In the 120-hour bail bond course, a student may not miss more than 24 total hours of instruction for any reason.  Any student accruing more than 24 hours of absence will be dropped and must re-take the full course.  Additionally, any student repeating the course after unsuccessful completion can retake the course for free.

 

a. Second-Chance for those who for any reason could not finish the 120 Hours Bail Bond Course or failed the Class. You have a one-year credit to retake the course for free.

 

b. Can I return for a Pre-State exam prep class for FREE? YES.  Those who wish to return to the 120 Hours, Bail Bond Course for a Pre-State exam prep may retake the course for free.

 

8.  Course Availability:

The Bail Bonds course is offered six times annually / bimonthly,  January, March, May, July, September and November.

 

9.  Can a Felon become a Bail Agent?

It is not the Department’s intent to punish those persons who have paid their debt to society; however, severity of the crime may prohibit your entry into the bail bond industry. Each case is reviewed on an individual basis

 

10.  The Florida Bail Bond Academy through National Surety Association is an Approved Provider of Bail Bond Education. Provider # 370587 from the Florida Department of Financial Services

 

11.  Is there a difference between a Bail bond Agent and a Fugitive Recovery Agent?

NO. Any person who represents a surety company, whose duties are restricted to writing bail bonds, or Fugitive Recovery must be licensed and appointed as a limited surety agent.

 

12.  When do i get my bail bond license?

After completing BOTH educational requirements, a one year internship must be completed. The one year internship requires a minimum 30-hours per week under the direct supervision of a licensed bail bond agent..

After the one year internship is complete the applicant may take the state examination for the Limited Surety Agent license.

 

13.  What happens if I failed the State exam?

 Any person who fails the state examination three times must retake the 120-hour course and obtain a grade of 80 percent or higher before sitting for the examination again and you must register as a new student.

 

14.  Do I get credit  for past work experience?

NO. Applicants who have worked for bail bond agents or offices, military service, and or law enforcement. are not credited for past work experience! You have to take the 120-hour course and obtain a grade of 80 percent or higher before sitting for the State examination.

 

15.   Course Withdraw ?
A registered student who wishes to withdraw from this course must do so prior to the first day of class or, at the latest, on the first break of the first day of class. Students withdrawing from this course beyond the first break on the first day of class. Will not be entitled to a tuition refund. BUT, You have a one-year credit to retake the course for free?.


16. How much money can I make as a bail bond agent or as an intern temporary agent?


That depends on the agent or agency you are working for or with. Some agents can be paid by salary and or Commission. A temporary agent must be paid by salary.


The student must understand that most bail bond agents earn their living through commissions not salary. The owner of the agency earns a higher commission than she or he pays to the licensed agents in the office, but all of the expenses of the office must be paid or the agency will fail! Commissions vary by contract. agent and agencies.
